Autumn leaves are beautiful when they’re on trees.
Once they’re wet, stuck to the patio, hiding in garage corners, and being tracked through the front door, the romance disappears quickly.
Early fall is a smart time to clean outdoor and transitional areas before cold weather makes the job considerably less appealing.
Start with a dry sweep. Remove leaves, dirt, twigs, dust, and other loose debris from patios, porches, walkways, and garage floors before introducing water. Lola’s outdoor cleaning collection includes corn brooms, Large Angle Broom, Deck Scrubber Brush with Tampico Bristles, handheld cleaning tools, and other heavy-duty options for outdoor jobs.
Pay special attention to corners and around doors. That debris has an annoying habit of becoming indoor debris the moment someone walks through it.
Next, inspect outdoor furniture. Brush away leaves and loose dirt first, then wipe appropriate surfaces with a damp microfiber cloth. Lola’s Jumbo microfiber cloth can be used wet for cleaning and dry for dusting.
For durable outdoor surfaces that need more than sweeping, a Deck Scrubber Brush with Tampico Bristles can provide the extra scrubbing power needed for stuck-on dirt. Always match your cleaning method and solution to the material you’re cleaning—wood, composite decking, stone, and concrete do not necessarily want the same treatment.
Then tackle the garage entrance. Sweep around storage shelves, bins, and the areas near your car. Removing loose dirt now means less of it gets carried indoors on shoes over the coming weeks.
Finally, reset the doorway itself. Shake or clean the doormat, sweep beneath it, and wipe the threshold. Think of this area as your home’s dirt-control checkpoint.
A fall outdoor cleanup doesn’t need to consume your entire weekend. Work from dry debris to stubborn grime, concentrate on the areas you actually use, and stop once the important jobs are done.
The leaves will come back tomorrow anyway.
There is no need to take that personally.
